FEAR
For God hath not given us a spirit of fear; but of power and of love and of a sound mind. (II Timothy 1:7)
That scripture helped me to battle the most devastating fear of all: panic/anxiety attacks. It is my favorite in helping me deal with fear itself. I chose to write and dedicate a page on this website on fear because it is one of the most devastating, tormenting, emotion of all. Some fear is good for us, like the fear of crossing a busy street because of serious injuries or death. That kind of fear is actually good for us. It's that other kind of fear that I want to talk about. The fears that can consume and destroy lives such as the fear of heights, dying, driving, loneliness, and so many others too numerous to mention here.
Everyone experiences fear: children, adults, infants. Even animals experience fear. Fear caused me to marry at an early age. I was afraid I was going to be an old maid. I was only 22 years old at the time. Can you imagine? An old maid at the age of 22 in the 1980s. I am now 45 and I look back & realize that I really let the devil slip one over on me through fear. Fear has been at the root of every problem that I’ve ever encountered. Anxiety Disorders thrive on fear. If you ask most people if they fear something, they will usually tell you what it is that they fear. Then again, some people have hidden fears that make them react in various ways.
I had a fear of dying; of being poisoned. After eating something my heart would race, I got dizzy, like I was going to pass out. I was bombarded with scary thoughts of going crazy, I couldn’t breathe. I really thought I was going to die! This fear still tries to sneak up on me; but now I know how to rebuke it and deal with it. I wasn't always this strong. This fear would totally incapacitate me. I made several trips to the emergency room all to find out that I'm fine. Talking about an emotional roller coaster, hey I was on a tsunami of one! While crying out to God one night sobbing with tears after a visit from the emergency room. I said "God, what is wrong with me? Please show me what is wrong with me. If I keep this up, I'm going to go crazy. Please don't let me go crazy. Please come and see about me." I held on to God's word and not long after that prayer, He revealed to me what was wrong with me one night and I've been victorious every since. I believe I am healed of the disorder. When the attacks do try to come back, I immediately recognize what it is and I rebuke it. I rebuke it with a thought (Father I trust You with my life and my death) and the scary thoughts vanish. The frequency of them ceased when I placed complete trust in God and now, I rarely have any episodes. You see, I trust in Him and I know that everything will be all right. I’m not afraid of my food being poisoned or contaminated anymore. "They shall take up serpents: and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick and, they shall recover". (Mark 16:18) As a great writer once quoted: "Courage is resistance to fear, mastery of fear - not absence of fear." - Mark Twain, Author (1835-1910). Let's face it; fear is a part of life. It's how we respond to it that determines our mastery of it.
What is your fear today? The recession, divorce, alcohol, sexual addiction, loneliness, disease, loss, heartache and pain, drugs, humiliation, job security, poverty? Fear can and does destroy if it is allowed to manifest in your life. Make a stand against it today! Whatever the fear is, make a commitment today to fight it! Fear can be defeated. Yahushua has already overcome fear by the cross. The scripture at the beginning of this page has a very powerful message. God did not give us the spirit of fear – Selah. He gave us a spirit of power which we can use to overcome fear – Selah. He gave us the spirit of love which is essential to combat fear. "There is no fear in love; but perfect love casteth out fear; because fear hath torment. He that feareth is not made perfect in love." (I John 4:18) – Selah. He gave us the spirit of a sound mind which is imperative - our minds have to be balanced to battle fear! Selah!
Whatever it is that you fear today, you have the power to overcome that fear! Yahushua is the way. He is the lover of our souls. Try to imagine a friend who is there no matter what, no matter what you've done, or who you've become. A friend who will love you and never leave you no matter what. Now you may not be able to see or touch this friend, but he is there. "God is a spirit; and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth". (John 4:24). You will feel Him in your very soul. You will know when he comes. He is a friend whom you can call on anytime, and He will come. It doesn't matter if you're addicted to alcohol, drugs, sex, gambling, diagnosed with HIV or some other life threatening disease. Even if you've done something so terrible it's unimaginable and you think no one in this world would ever forgive you. My friend, there is someone who does forgive. Who loves you dearly. Who knows you by name ....and he calleth his own sheep by name, and leadeth them out". (John 10:3). All you have to do is call Him. Go ahead. Call Him right now. Yahushua - please hear my cry. He will hear you and come see about you.
Quick interlude: Calling on God has a special memory for me that I would like to share with you. You see, I told my little 5 year old niece to call God one day after watching a cartoon with her that had this demon dressed in a ballerina dress and shoes. For some reason, that frightened her. She said “Auntie Sweetie, I’m scared.” I said, “why Kasey?” she said, “that demon scare me”. I said, “don’t be afraid of that old demon, whenever you’re afraid, call God”. She was quiet for a moment and she had this bewildered, inquisitive look on her face and she says in a small meek voice “call God? I said yes; whenever you are frightened, call God”. She then looks me in the eye with this worried serious little look on her face and says, "okay, what’s his phone number?" Well, that taught me to be a little more careful with words with a 5 year old. You can just imagine, I had to do some more explaining. Children are great! End of story break ;-).
Fear almost destroyed my life. But praise God - He did not let it! He ordered my steps and showed me the way. I am not an avid church goer, nor was I raised in church, but I do know that God is alive, He's real and He is working miracles in this time, in this era. If He did it for me, He will surely do it for you. He is real and He loves you. Why does He love you? Because God is love..Selah. No matter what you're going through right now - God is working His purpose out in your life. All things come together for His good and glory.
Whatever your fears or worries are today, I encourage you to take it to the Lord in prayer. Prayer does change things; I am a witness. Please see my testimony: But God ...God has truly been good to me. He loves us the same and whatever He is doing in my life, He will do in yours. I'm sure hundreds of thousands of others can be witnesses of God's awesome power, His awesome love, and His awesome mercy. If you're going through trials and tribulations right now, whatever they may be, and the enemy is telling you that you're not going to make it----please do not listen for "he is a liar and the father of it" (John 8:44) "The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy...." (John 10:10).
Be strong and of good courage! Believe in yourself! You are somebody, you're special, and God loves you. I can't stress that enough. Just search your heart, and give Him a try. God made heaven and earth and everything on it and above it. He is creator of the universe. He is Alpha and Omega. He made you and me and He loves us. "I sought the Lord, and he heard me, and delivered me from all my fears" (Psalm 34:4) The power of God is awesome, the time to seek Him is now and together we will overcome our adversaries. He is our father and loves us as a father should and no other father could.

If you don’t already know Yahushua, I pray that you get to know him. He already knows you. He gave us a will and He will not make us love Him. You have to look deep inside yourself and TRUST Him. Love is the most powerful force on this planet. Look at what God did because He loved us: “For God so loved the world, He gave his only begotten son.” (John 3:16).
God bless you and don't let fear control you - you control your fear through God's word. Fear is the adversary and God's word is your shield! Praise His holy name Yahweh! No fear - Believe Only - Have Faith - Have Hope – Spread Love!
